7 Computer Tricks to Make Remote Working Easier

With more companies allowing a hybrid setup for their employees—often a mix of reporting from home and at the office—businesses are on the lookout for ways to make remote work easier for their teams. If you’re in the same boat, here are seven tips you’ll want to try. Go over the list and check which one will prove effective for you.

Look for an Infrastructure Solution

If you’ve got a problem coming up with an infrastructure plan that works, reach out to pros. Find a company that offers infrastructure solutions. That’s one way to make it easier for your team to work from home. The right infrastructure setup will go a long way to smoothing out issues and IT hurdles.

Allow Remote Access

You could also set up, as part of your infrastructure plan, remote access to computers. Meaning, allow your employees to access their files from the computers they use at the office. With remote workstation access, finding the materials and documents they need to get their reports done is easy and convenient.

Automatically Open Tabs

We all have tabs that we keep open for the rest of the day. If you want to help your team achieve ever higher levels of efficiency and productivity, suggest that they set their pages to automatically load the sites they need every time they open their screens. That’s one way to save on time and energy. They can do that by checking out the settings menu of the browser they use, whether it’s Chrome or Firefox.

Know Keyboard Shortcuts

Knowing a bit about keyboard shortcuts, especially the ones relevant to their work, will help your team move faster. It’s also efficient. It does take some getting used to and using a PC and Mac means they’ll need to know different keyboard shortcuts. It’s easy, though, once they get the hang of it.

Refresh Pages

Improve computer speed by reminding your team to refresh pages and clear the cache regularly. There are easy computer tricks, though, to make this happen. Encourage your staff to learn the keyboard shortcuts for that and to start putting them to good use.

Ditch Speed Suckers

There are sites that suck the Internet speed out of your computer or laptop. Netflix tops the list along with other streaming services like Hulu. If you have a lot of tabs open, that also slows down your speed. If you’re uploading or downloading in the background, that compromises your speed, too. Also, how many in your household use the Wi-Fi? If there are many devices connected to the Wi-Fi unit and all of them are online, that also cuts down on your internet speed. Big programs running in the background like Skype or Slack also affect your speed. Circulate a reminder to your team about these internet speed suckers, so they can watch out for them.

Check Everything

Before you or any of your team reach out to your IT department, make it a habit to check everything. Is everything plugged properly? How about restarting the computer to check if that fixes the problem? Try easy fixes first before you ask for help.
